Senior Planning Engineer - Construction | Saudi Arabia

As an Electrical Planning Engineer – High Voltage, Extra High Voltage & Substations , you will play a key role in planning, monitoring, and controlling electrical infrastructure projects. The role focuses on preparing and updating project schedules, tracking progress, coordinating with engineering and site teams, and ensuring the timely execution of HV/EHV substation works, including substations, transmission lines, underground cables, power transformers, switchgear, protection systems, testing, commissioning, and energization activities.

Key Accountabilities 

• Prepare, update, and maintain detailed project schedules for High Voltage, Extra High Voltage, and substation projects.
• Develop baseline schedules, recovery plans, look-ahead schedules, and progress tracking reports in coordination with project teams.
• Monitor project progress against approved plans and identify delays, risks, and critical path activities.
• Coordinate with engineering, procurement, construction, testing, commissioning, and site teams to ensure alignment with the project schedule.
• Support planning activities related to HV/EHV substations, underground cables, transmission lines, power transformers, GIS/AIS switchgear, protection systems, testing, commissioning, and energization.
• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports, dashboards, and project status updates.
• Track engineering deliverables, material approvals, procurement status, site activities, and testing/commissioning milestones.
• Analyze schedule variances and support the preparation of corrective action plans when delays occur.
• Coordinate with consultants, clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams to collect progress data and resolve planning-related issues.
• Review project scope, BOQs, drawings, technical documents, and execution plans to support accurate planning and resource allocation.
• Assist in preparing manpower histograms, equipment plans, productivity reports, and resource-loaded schedules.
• Support project meetings by providing planning updates, progress analysis, and forecast reports.
• Ensure planning activities comply with client requirements, Saudi standards, SEC specifications, and project contractual obligations.
• Maintain organized planning documentation, progress records, reports, and schedule revisions.
• Support handover, testing, commissioning, and energization planning activities for HV/EHV systems and substations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

We Are Looking For:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Proven experience as an Electrical Planning Engineer within construction, infrastructure, utilities, EPC, or power projects.
• Strong experience in High Voltage, Extra High Voltage, and substation projects .
• Solid understanding of substations, power transformers, GIS/AIS switchgear, circuit breakers, protection relays, control panels, underground cables, transmission lines, testing, commissioning, and energization activities.
• Familiarity with Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) standards and specifications is highly preferred.
• Experience in project planning, scheduling, progress monitoring, delay analysis, and reporting.
• Ability to review project documents, BOQs, drawings, technical submittals, method statements, ITPs, and project specifications from a planning perspective.
• Proficiency in Primavera P6 & Oracle are required; knowledge of Microsoft Project is a plus.
• Strong command of Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
• Knowledge of AutoCAD, ETAP, cable sizing, or electrical design tools is a plus.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and coordination skills.
• Ability to manage priorities, work under pressure, and meet project deadlines.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to ensure accurate planning, reporting, and project control.
