Biomedical Equipment Technician

The Biomedical Equipment Technician plays a critical role in supporting the academic and clinical functions of BMC by ensuring that all educational and clinical biomedical equipment are installed, maintained, and operating safely and effectively. This role includes working with simulation labs, student training labs, and on-site clinics , and involves collaboration with faculty, IT, and healthcare professionals to support teaching, training, and operational needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Install and configure new biomedical equipment in simulation and clinical labs according to academic schedules and curriculum needs.
Perform routine testing, calibration, and preventive maintenance to ensure equipment accuracy and readiness for educational use.
Diagnose equipment issues and perform timely troubleshooting and repairs to minimize downtime and disruption to academic programs.
Keep detailed maintenance records and equipment logs for all biomedical devices in accordance with regulatory and institutional standards.
Collaborate with faculty to provide technical setup and support for practical sessions, exams, and clinical demonstrations.
Train faculty, staff, and students on the proper use and safety protocols of biomedical and simulation equipment.
Provide input on equipment upgrades, purchases, and replacements based on usage trends and academic needs.
Ensure all equipment complies with safety, health, and calibration standards , and report any discrepancies or risks.
Support quality assurance and accreditation activities related to laboratory and clinical teaching environments.
Coordinate with vendors for technical support, parts procurement, and external servicing when needed.
Requirements
Education:
Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering , Electronics , or a related field.
Experience:
Minimum 2 years of experience in biomedical equipment maintenance , preferably in an academic or clinical training environment .
Certifications (Preferred):
CBET or equivalent certification is an advantage.
Skills & Competencies:
Solid understanding of biomedical systems , electrical and electronic components, and medical simulation technologies .
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilities.
Familiarity with simulation labs , mannequins, and virtual clinical systems used in health education.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work with faculty, students, and cross-functional teams.
Proficient in using diagnostic tools, ERP systems , and maintenance software.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and reporting.
Able to manage multiple tasks, prioritize, and respond to urgent equipment issues quickly.
Skilled in using a variety of tools such as screwdrivers, soldering irons, multimeters , and calibration instruments.
