Summary

Within the mission, vision and values of Saudi Arabian Ministry of National Guard – Health Affairs, in close collaboration with medical and other healthcare team members demonstrates advanced nursing knowledge and applies this knowledge to the assessment, diagnosis, delivery and design of nursing care and interventions in the Neonatal Critical Care Clinic. Education / Qualifications Required

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing

Experience Post-Qualifications

• Minimum Two (2) years of clinical experience post qualification
• Minimum One (1) year in Neonatal ICU

License

Current and in good standing Nursing License/Registration (RN) to practice in country of residence

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Demonstrate advanced neonatal nursing knowledge and clinical competence in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
• Act as an advisor and resource person within the NICU, supporting the care of critically ill and premature neonates.
• Work in collaboration with the multidisciplinary NICU team within the remit of the Registered Nurse (RN) license to provide highly specialized, developmentally appropriate nursing care, including ventilator management and advanced life support.
• Act as an advisor and resource person for current evidence-based neonatal critical care nursing practices.
• Demonstrate excellent communication and collaboration skills with neonates’ families, neonatal healthcare providers, and the wider hospital team.
• Function as a patient advocate, ensuring the safety, dignity, and individualized care of all neonates.
• Maintain meticulous documentation and record keeping, including ventilator settings, feedings, fluid balances, and critical event reporting.
• Maintain strict confidentiality of all records, reports, and results related to neonatal patient care.
• Act as an expert educational resource for NICU staff and participate actively in teaching, mentoring, and supporting new nurses and interdisciplinary team members.
• Participate in neonatal critical care research activities and promote implementation of evidence-based neonatal practices in the NICU.
• Assess family educational needs around prematurity, congenital conditions, and complex discharge plans, providing support, teaching, and appropriate referrals.
• Demonstrate respect, compassion, and cultural sensitivity to families coping with neonatal critical illness, long hospital stays, and complex emotional needs.
• Advocate fiercely for excellence in neonatal patient care and champion family-centered care principles.
• Lead and participate in the development of NICU-specific nursing initiatives and educational programs to improve patient quality and family experience.
• Undertake clinical audits and contribute to neonatal research that advances NICU nursing knowledge and practice.
• Comply with and actively participate in Quality Improvement Projects and neonatal-focused safety initiatives.
• Maintain rigorous infection control measures, especially for immunocompromised and premature neonates.
• Participate in evaluation and redesign of NICU systems and care programs to maximize neonatal outcomes and developmental health.
• Make evidence-based recommendations for practice changes and improvements in neonatal critical care.
• Lead, develop, and review NICU-specific policies, procedures, and practice guidelines, providing expert recommendations for neonatal system development.
• Serve as a professional role model, consultant, and educator within the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
• Develop and maintain strong professional collegial networks with NICU staff, students, and hospital faculty specializing in neonatal care.
• Assume full accountability for own actions, clinical decisions, and professional behaviors in the high-risk NICU environment.
• Demonstrate initiative, critical thinking, and emotional resilience in the performance of highly specialized NICU duties with minimal supervision.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned within the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
