ROLE SUMMARY

Associate Director, Head of Medical Evidence Generation (HMEG) leads and oversees Medical Evidence generation activities in AstraZeneca GCC Cluster and Pakistan to demonstrate scientific, medical and payer value related to AstraZeneca brands and business.

The role aims to support Access, Value, Policy & Practice changing activities aligned with GCC’s 2030 Vision by delivering local evidence through implementation of innovative data solutions, including leading on local data partnerships with external stakeholders, utilizing novel analytical tools, platforms, local and cluster healthcare data.

• The HMEG act as Team Leader of the GCC Medical Evidence Generation Team (Line management responsibility).
• The HMEG is accountable for the GCC Cluster’s all local research deliveries including scientific and strategic aspects, as well as budget.
• The HMEG oversees the continuous and optimal collaboration with SM&M and GMA/GMD, MEA/International Evidence teams aiming to contribute building a strong R&D footprint in GCC and position AZ GCC as recognized Scientific and Research leader.
• The HMEG has a key strategic role in driving evidence needs assessment for pre-launch assets (Value teams), GCC RWE concept development, RWE data generation and utilization to meet GCC medical and payer evidence needs.
• The HMEG will lead the operational planning, delivery, oversight, and budget management of company sponsored evidence studies and/or EAPs across all therapeutic areas (TAs). This person is responsible for leading a cross-functional AstraZeneca (AZ) study team and monitoring the CROs/ SMOs study team as well as for providing the teams with direction and guidance to enable operational excellence, successful study and/or EAP delivery.
• The HMEG is responsible to Identify, evaluate, and obtain high-quality Real-World Data (RWD) sources to support strategic decision-making. Assess the feasibility of data sources to ensure they align with research objectives and compliance requirements.
• The HMEG is responsible to design, conduct, and oversee evidence generation activities and RWD studies to expand the understanding of healthcare practices. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to disseminate findings that support local and global healthcare initiatives.
• The HMEG is responsible to analyse and interpret data to create compelling narratives that highlight practice-changing evidence. Effectively communicate insights to key stakeholders, including healthcare professionals, policymakers, and industry leaders, to influence clinical practices and drive healthcare improvements.
• The HMEG is also accountable for the GCC contribution to Externally Sponsored Research (ESR), including alignment with Therapeutic Area strategic needs as well as with regulations and AstraZeneca Standard Operating Procedures
• The HMEG oversees development of external research collaborations and mapping of external data partnership opportunities across GCC markets.
• People management: Develop and implement strategies to uplift internal evidence generation capabilities, develop evidence talents pipelines. Provide training and resources to teams, ensuring the effective use of methodologies and tools to generate reliable and impactful evidence.
• The HMEG act as the GCP Quality Lead by ensuring all requirements are fully complied with and in line with the GCC/local GCP Quality Management System (QMS) SOP and all applicable AZ policies and Standards.

What you’ll do

• Lead Medical Evidence generation activities in AstraZeneca in order to demonstrate scientific, medical and payer value related to AstraZeneca brands and business.
• Lead on close collaboration with Medical Therapeutic Areas Team Leaders to align on business, access, medical and research strategy, and priorities.
• Development and implementation of the plan for continuous and optimal collaboration with KSA SM&M and GMA/ GMD, MEA/International Evidence ensuring bridging of research SM&M/ MEOR - medical and commercial agenda.
• Collaboration and interaction with AstraZeneca other MCs, MEA/International region, Global Medicine Development regarding Medical Evidence activities on clinical research
• Drive development of external research collaborations across GCC markets and identify external database partnerships (work in close collaboration with corporate affairs)
• Provide RWE generation expertise and support planning and delivery of Medical and Payer Evidence projects from idea to publication, with setting and tracking of KPI, as applicable.
• Identify, evaluate, and obtain high-quality Real-World Data (RWD) sources to support strategic decision-making. Assess the feasibility of data sources to ensure they align with research objectives and compliance requirements.
• Design, conduct, and oversee evidence generation activities and RWD studies to expand the understanding of healthcare practices. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to disseminate findings that support local and global healthcare initiatives.
• Develop and implement strategies to enhance internal evidence generation capabilities. Provide training and resources to teams, ensuring the effective use of methodologies and tools to generate reliable and impactful evidence.
• Analyse and interpret data to create compelling narratives that highlight practice-changing evidence. Effectively communicate insights to key stakeholders, including healthcare professionals, policymakers, and industry leaders, to influence clinical practices and drive healthcare improvements.
• Facilitate and support allocation of RWE and ESR activities and ensure adequate training.
• Ensures development, update and implementation of the processes and procedures for Evidence Generation
• Support and review development of study documents and study execution optimization (CRO and Third-party oversight for research)
• Review and approval of agreements and collaboration with external investigators, clinicians, payers, consulting companies, external service providers and other organizations as applicable
• Ensure compliance with AstraZeneca governance and operating procedures.
• Timely reporting/communication of functional deliveries/updates
• Support partnership with external stake holders and service providers.
• RWD/RWE projects & studies Budget management
• Periodic check on TMF QC and responsible for review of relevant sections/documents in accordance with SOP/Wis.
• Leading, mentoring coaching Evidence Generation and Innovation team, ensuring adequate training and talent development within team.
• As GCP Quality Lead, member of the GCC GXP Team, provide quality input to Quarterly GXP meetings.
• Trial Quality systems oversight.

Typical Accountabilities:

• Facilitate Evidence Planning to optimize development of value stories and reimbursement dossiers.
• Accountable for collaboration with SM&M and GMA/ GMD, aiming to build GCC AstraZeneca position as recognized Scientific Leader
• Medical Leadership including active role in GCC Medical Leadership and GXP teams.
• Accountable for compliance with AstraZeneca governance and operating procedures
• Accountable for ensuring that tasks are of correct quality and in accordance with written procedures and current legal requirements and internal standards.
• Accountable for the team’s and individuals’ level of competence being right as well as their compliance to current legal requirements and internal standards.
• Accountable for development and implementation of the processes and procedures for Evidence Generation & Publication needs assessment.
• Accountable for compliance with the local GCP Quality Management and applicable AZ policies and Standards and for providing adequate training to the teams.

Essential Capabilities:

• MD, PhD or M.Sc. Degree in Natural science, Pharmacy, Medicine or equivalent.
• 10+ years Significant leadership experience in both Clinical Research & Development and Medical Affairs in the Pharmaceutical Business, obtained in one or more of the GCC markets.
• Understanding of GCC/KSA Healthcare systems and pharmaceutical regulatory environment.
• Proven ability to lead teams and influence in a cross-functional and multidisciplinary, matrix context.
• Fluent in speaking and good writing skills in English.
• Ability to set and manage priorities, resources, performance targets and project initiatives in a multi-TA, matrix environment.
• High integrity and highest ethical standards.

• Strategic/Business insights and awareness of TA/Brand specific strategies.
• Business acumen.
• Knowledge of global R&D ways of working.
